We treat musculoskeletal injuries during all three stages of inflammatory response by stimulating tissue with ultrasound. Therapists apply gel to the affected area and move the ultrasound head around constantly while in contact, to ensure a smooth and effective treatment. The mechanical vibrations of the head accelerate the healing process by interacting with cell activity, improving circulation, and breaking down scar tissue.
Deep-tissue massage is a manual therapy technique that is useful for all kinds of clients, from athletes and sporting enthusiasts to office workers, who suffer from muscle soreness or stiffness. Our therapist applies firm pressure to release knots around the shoulders, or use trigger points to break down scar tissue.
Assisted stretching techniques, such as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), are also employed to flex and contract the muscle being targeted. Although this technique is sometimes uncomfortable to experience, you will feel relieved and relaxed by the end of the session. This technique is known to prevent injuries, improve performance, and speed up recovery.
To hasten your recovery, our therapists may prescribe individualised exercise programmes to be completed at home between sessions. This includes both static and dynamic stretching to improve your range of motion, or a strength training programme to strengthen your muscles and joints during more vigorous types of training.
These techniques are used to mobilise stiff or sore joints through the passive range of motion. With the aim of restoring correct function and movement, this technique is especially recommended for clients who suffer from a stiff spine, as it enables you to move your back more freely and smoothly.
Here at Afya Sports & Massage Clinic, our therapists are trained in both early- and late-stage rehabilitation for all types of athletes. Whether your aim is to maintain fitness, recover from injuries, or play competitive sports, we’ll help you achieve your goals through strength and conditioning. You receive an individualised training programme through which your knowledgeable and experienced therapist helps and guides you back into action.
Founded in Japan in the 1970s, Kinesio taping is a method of sports treatment whereby versatile elastic tape is applied to the body in order to support injured muscles and tissue for minimal disruption to the healing process. Holding the damaged tissue in a pain-relieving position takes any harmful stress off the area during exercise, allowing the body to heal naturally. This waterproof tape comes in a variety of colours and applications.
